Home baking is fun! And we all know that nothing beats the smell and taste of home made bread or buns. Until now the best professional bakeries have had upper hand as they have been able to bake their products with a tasty, crispy base thanks to their high tech stone ovens.
With the Kiviarina Soapstone Baking Stone it's possible for you to bake at home and achieve beautifully crispy baked goods. Simply place Kiviarina on a baking tray, heat it in any standard electric or gas home oven and then bake on top of it.
Before using it for the first time wash Kiviarina thoroughly and let it dry for at least 24 hours. Set the stone in a cold oven, switch on the oven to 250 degrees centigrade and leave the empty stone to heat for one hour. Switch off the oven and let the stone cool down before moving it.
Once the stone has been cleaned for the first time, it can be used to bake as you desire. Each time it is used it should be placed in a cold oven and then allowed to heat with the oven to the desired temperature. Unbaked goods can be placed on the hot stone and baked as normal.
After use the stone can be cleaned with water and left to dry thoroughly before exposing it to heat again (at least 24 hours). From time to time you should rub the surface of the stone with a thin layer of high quality cooking oil to prolong it's lifetime.
Kiviarina is made of pure, natural, Finnish soapstone. It should be handled with care, avoid dropping or bumping it against hard surfaces. It scratches easily as it is made of soft stone, though scratches or hairline fractures do not prevent the stone from being used in the normal way.
Kiviarina can be used in a standard electric or gas oven. Under no circumstances should it be warmed with any other method (for example on a stove top or in a microwave oven).
