By making significant investments in training, knowledge and quality, Handed By now work exclusively with a core group of loyal partners helping local communities prosper.
Ethically produced - All Handed By products are handwoven within local communities in either rural Indonesia, Vietnam or China. Respect for the Asian traditions and habits is high-up on the Handed By agenda and they do not co-operate with heartless manufacturing facilities but directly with the handcrafters; mostly women working from their homes. Handed By offer regular work to around 300 qualified craftswomen. After work on the fields is finished, or when the children are at school, the women extra income by weaving Handed By products. At home, with their husband, together with the neighbour on the porch or with a group of weavers somewhere in the village.
100% child labour free - Before Covid Handed By visited their handcrafters every four to six weeks to discuss product and material developments, carry out quality checks, inspect working conditions and nurture the partnership. Nowadays they maintain close contact via their contact people in the field. This close relationship enables Handed By to guarantee that their products are not made by child labourers. Moreover, since the women are able to work during school hours, the children can attend school.
Fair wages - Handed By offer regular work to approximately 300 qualified handcrafters. Women with a love of their trade and who are deeply engaged in Handed By. All their handcrafters work under healthy and hygienic conditions and receive a fair wage. Since Handed By guarantee continual work the weavers are able to improve their circumstances considerably. For example they are now capable of providing for the basic needs of their families and communities, such as health, safe housing and education.
Recycling - Handed By products give used plastics a new lease of life by recycling industrial plastic waste into the strap material that then creates new Handed By bags and basket collections. Waste that would otherwise be thrown away and released into the environment with all its consequences. The plastic waste is used as a base granulate, the basic material for every product.
